Dr. Indelicato is an international leader in research on the use of radiotherapy for pediatric cancers. His research interests include long-term clinical outcomes and prospective studies evaluating the potential for proton therapy to decrease the late side effects of radiotherapy in children and young adults with brain tumors and sarcoma. These studies are critical in that they document and quantify a baseline for tumor control and adverse events in a variety of different cancers treated with radiotherapy. Using this data, he has been able to identify potential areas of improvement and apply this to the design of dosimetric and clinical studies involving proton therapy. He has also used this data to develop empiric models of organ-specific pediatric radiation tolerance applicable across all radiation types.

Dr. Indelicato is the primary Radiation Investigator for the Children’s Oncology Group at the University of Florida and Nemours Children’s Specialty Clinic. As a member of the National Cancer Institute’s Pediatric Central Institutional Review Board, Dr. Indelicato is among the team dedicated to protecting the rights and welfare of children enrolled in cancer clinical trials throughout the country. As the University of Florida Principal Investigator for the Pediatric Proton and Photon Consortium Registry, his goal is to help expedite research by combining data with over 21 other institutions to improve pediatric cancer treatment outcomes. Over the past decade, he has received over $1 million dollars in funding to conduct groundbreaking research on childhood cancer.
