Jiyeon Park, PhD
Physicist
Dr. Park is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Florida’s Department of Radiation Oncology. As a medical physicist at the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute, she works with a team of medical physicists to ensure that high-quality radiation therapy is delivered to each patient through continuous focus on the latest proton research and techniques.
Dr. Park received her B.S. degree from Seoul National University in South Korea, with a major in Nuclear Engineering and minor in Physics & Astronomy. She then joined the Ph.D. program in Medical Physics & Engineering at Catholic University of Korea’s College of Medicine to become a Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist. After earning her Ph.D., she took a postdoctoral position at Stanford University’s Molecular Imaging Program, driven by an interest in integrating molecular imaging of cancer cells into clinical radiation therapy techniques. Dr. Park completed her medical physics residency training at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Currently, she leads the quality assurance of photon and proton therapy at the University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute. Dr. Park has published multiple papers and served as a reviewer for scientific peer-reviewed journals, including Medical Physics and Radiation Oncology. She currently teaches medical physics assistants and residents the fundamentals of photon and proton radiation therapy and prepares them for hands-on practice. Dr. Park is an active member with the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, the World Molecular Imaging Society and the American Society for Radiation Oncology.

Dr. Park’s research interests include in-vitro and in-vivo cancer cell responses and mechanisms for finding more effective treatment techniques, especially in high-dose-rate pencil beam scanning in proton therapy.
Another interest of hers includes robust radiation treatment using patient motion management and stereotactic beam delivery in photon and proton. Dr. Park’s research also includes Ion Beam Applications research grants working to improve the quality of cone-beam CT image quality and the radiobiological effects of proton therapy on the DNA of cancer cells. In addition, Dr. Park holds three patents, including two for phantom devices used for quality assurance.
