Maria Mamalui, PhD
Physicist
Dr. Maria Mamalui is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Florida. She is a medical physicist with more than 10 years clinical experience beyond residency training. Her clinical duties include treatment chart checks and supervision of treatment planning activities, advising dosimetry staff on the best way of handling complex cases and improving treatment planning procedures.
Dr. Mamalui’s current research is focused on proton arc therapy, photon and proton Spatially Fractionated Radiation Therapy (SFRT) and innovations and standards in proton ocular therapy. Dr. Mamalui’s educational interests span both clinical and didactic aspects of teaching. She is currently a Program Director for UFHPTI Medical Physics Residency Program. In addition, she is an active member of AAPM, serving on several AAPM Committees and Task Groups that prepare and publish guideline documents for the medical physics community.

Dr. Mamalui’s focus on research is evident in more than 20 publications in well-respected medical journals, including Practical Radiation Oncology and Medical Physics. Her research includes an interest in optimizing treatment planning for cancers of the lungs, brain, breast, and eyes. Dr. Mamalui’s current research is also focused on proton arc therapy, photon and proton Spatially Fractionated Radiation Therapy (SFRT) and innovations and standards in proton ocular therapy.
