15-Year
Reflections
In our first 15 years we have made medical history as the first to offer proton therapy in the state of Florida and all of the Southeastern United States. We have treated more than 10,000 patients. We have opened over 65 clinical trials and published more than 300 studies in peer-reviewed scientific medical journals. We are dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in patient care, education and research.
Hear from some of our staff members, many with us since day one, as they reflect on what the 15-year milestone means to them. After all, it is our people who have made it all possible.
“Over the past 15 years, the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute has had the honor and privilege to bring world-class cancer care to the residents of North Florida and beyond.”
–Stuart Klein, MHA, Executive Director
“I’m so incredibly proud to be a part of this organization that not only offers cutting edge treatments and conducts valuable research for our patients, but also values our employees day to day.”
–Holly Mostoller, PHR SHRM-CP, Director of Human Resources
“I feel honored to have been selected by CEO Stuart Klein and Medical Director Dr. Nancy Mendenhall over 15 years ago to be part of the inaugural team at UF Health Proton Therapy. We have progressed from just an idea to today being recognized as a world-class facility that has treated over 10,000 patients.”
–Tim Buist, Director of IT
“Celebrating 15 years at UFHPTI is a testament to the excellent staff and the leadership team, and success of our proton center, even when facing tremendous obstacles. It shows our resolve to provide the best cancer care for all of our patients.”

“I am so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of UFHPTI and work alongside the best pediatric nurses anyone could ask for. We have a fantastic team!”
–Amy Sapp, MSN, RN, Director of Pediatric Nursing
“During the 15 years that UFHPTI has delivered proton bean radiation therapy I have seen how we have made many advancements in treatment delivery techniques to remain at the forefront of healthcare technologies; but what has remained constant here is the dedication in patient care that the staff of UFHPTI has always offered. I am proud to be a part of this staff.”
–Kevin Kirby, CMD, RT (R)(T), Director of Clinical Dosimetry
“It is hard to believe 15 years have passed since UFHPTI was opened! We are grateful to UF and the state of Florida for the opportunity to bring this wonderful technology to Florida, grateful to the patients who have entrusted us with their care, grateful to the dedicated staff and faculty who make UFHPTI what it is – a place of healing – and we are proud of the accomplishments of these first 15 years.”
–Nancy P. Mendenhall, MD, FACR, FASTRO, Medical Director
“I have thoroughly enjoyed watching proton therapy go from a brand new treatment option at one of only five centers in the U.S. 15 years ago, to UF Health Proton Therapy Institute becoming one of the most experienced proton centers in the world.”
