UF Health and the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute Attend Community Events to Educate the Public About Breast Cancer Awareness

During the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute actively participated in community events. Here are some of the highlights from the month’s community engagement efforts:

Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicked-off with the Pink Ribbon Symposium on Oct. 8 in Orange Park, Fla., where the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute had a booth. The Pink Ribbon Symposium proudly presents events to support its mission of breast cancer awareness and making healthy lifestyle choices.

On Oct. 15 in Jacksonville, cancer specialists from UF Health attended the C.A.R.E (Cancer Assistance Resources and Expertise) Expo. Representatives brought the Precision Imaging Mammogram Bus to educate attendees about breast cancer screenings, as well as were available to discuss other cancer types. 

A film screening in Jacksonville of Life Interrupted Telling Breast Cancer Stories was held on Oct. 19. The film showing, which participants attended in person and virtually, was followed by a panel discussion with film director Paula Mozen, breast cancer survivor Vonceil Bradford, UF Health Jacksonville breast cancer surgeon Dr. Bharti Jasra, and Dr. Julie Bradley, UF Health Proton Therapy Institute physician and breast cancer specialist.  

To close the month of community awareness events focused on breast cancer, the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute had a team participating in the Making Strides of the First Coast 5K Walk in Jacksonville. The Proton Pink Warriors surpassed their fundraising goal.
