Dr. Mailhot Wins Prestigious Award
Raymond B. Mailhot, MD, MPH received the prestigious Robert A. Winn Diversity in Clinical Trials Career Development Award (Winn CDA). The award program aims to train, develop and mentor more than 308 clinical trialists and 308 medical students by 2027 who are diverse or who have a demonstrated commitment to clinical trial diversity. A narrow field of 65 physicians were selected in 2023 for the honor. The Winn CDA Scholars were chosen for their commitment to increasing diversity in clinical trials and bring expertise in the areas of cancer (hematologic or solid tumors), immunologic disorders and cardiovascular diseases.
A recipient of numerous distinguished awards and grants, Dr. Mailhot’s research focuses on outcomes related to radiation treatment in pediatric cancers, optimizing radiotherapy delivery for breast cancer and improving radiation treatment options for lymphoma patients. He also carries out extensive research on the cost-effectiveness of radiation treatment and is a member of the RADCOMP (Radiotherapy Comparative Effectiveness) cost-effectiveness and financial toxicity workgroup. In addition, Dr. Mailhot works to both improve disparities in cancer care and promote diversity in patient care.

Family Health Day at Riverside Arts Market
On Saturday, September 30th, the Riverside Arts Market in Jacksonville buzzed with excitement as National Family Health & Fitness Day unfolded. The UF Health Proton Therapy Institute, in collaboration with UF Health Jacksonville, orchestrated “The Orange Scavenger Hunt,” an engaging event designed to inform and inspire the community about vital health services and practices. Participants of all ages eagerly embarked on the hunt, armed with scavenger hunt cards, seeking out various UF Health informational tables. All who completed the quest were entered into a raffle for a fun prize.
Amidst the festivities, the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute took the opportunity to share the transformative benefits of proton therapy, available right here in Jacksonville for those battling cancer. Committed representatives also delved into crucial topics such as child safety, hands-only CPR techniques, recommended health screenings across all age groups, and an array of mental health resources. The day ended with an impressive turnout, with over 215 individuals immersing themselves in The Orange Scavenger Hunt, all while exploring the offerings of local vendors at the Riverside Arts Market.
UF Health Proton Therapy Institute takes immense pride in being a cornerstone of events like these, strengthening the connection between the community and the exceptional healthcare they provide.
