National Radiologic Technology Week is Nov. 3-9, 2024

National Radiologic Technology Week® is an annual celebration to recognize the vital work of medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals in patient care and health care safety. The week-long celebration takes place during the week of Nov. 8 to commemorate the discovery of the X-ray by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on Nov. 8, 1895. Learn more from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. We thank all the Institute’s imaging and radiation techs for their dedication to patient care and excellence.

International Day of Medical Physics

For the past eleven years, the International Day of Medical Physics has been recognized on Nov. 7 in honor of Marie Sklodowska-Curie, known for her pioneering research on radioactivity, who was born on this day in 1867. The International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) created this initiative to raise global awareness about the essential role of medical physics in healthcare and to highlight the contributions of medical physicists to patient diagnosis, treatment, and care. In 2024, the theme for the International Day of Medical Physics is “Inspiring the Next Generation of Medical Physicists.”

At the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute, we are proud to have nine medical physicists supporting patient treatment planning.

18th Anniversary Celebration – Employee Appreciation

This year’s celebration of the 18th anniversary of treating patients at UF Health Proton Therapy Institute coincided with our annual Employee Appreciation Week festivities. Each of our employees works hard throughout the year for the patients who need to come to us for treatment. Some employees work directly with patients throughout treatment, while other employees work behind the scenes, making sure everything falls into place. No matter what their role, we wanted to make sure that each employee felt appreciated for their dedication to the patients. Each day featured a fun activity, gift or treat. And finally, on Friday night, when all the patient treatments were done, more than 100 staff members met up for a night of bowling at a local bowling alley.
